POEM + AUDIO: SHARING IS HEREDITARY

Sharing is hereditary

my four foot-eleven mother was world wise yet unburdened

by the cloying cynicism sophistication so often suggests

she projected a generous spirit adeptly balancing gifting

and keeping her nose out of other people's greed, and

equally, my burly country bred father taught us

the eternal lesson: regardless of how you looked

or what others thought, there was no wrong in doing right

the curatorial joy of their prescient caring shaped three

strapling sons who continue to strive to match inola's

exalted social statue and to embody big val's prophetic

folk wisdom, our parents offered the treasury of themselves

and thereby ushered our entrance into the sanctuary

of responsive and responsible manhood wherein we fulfill

ourselves by emptying our hearts into the life cups of others

Kalamu, I just about like all your poems not many that slip by me...Do you have a Cd out that I can purchase? If so, send details for ordering and it's a great feature to listen to you on my iPad...Let me know if you have a Cd with the musicians that appear on this website...Were else have you appeared? I use to drive up to Guelph Intl' JazzFestival in Guelph, Canada and I saw Amiri Baraka and some other poets that really fascinated me...When you going to make a crash landing in Virginia or North Carolina sometimes so I can come and check you over...One time in Guelph, I hung out with Sunni Patterson, and her friend, they actually caught ride's with me on my old 2000 Dodge Stratus in Guelph...We stayed at the same hotel and that was one of the most memorable times at the Jazz Festival...Haven't been back up there...I work for the local telephone company 21 years and they let me go back in October, 2011...So it's haed trying to attend Jazz Festival on a shoe-string budget now...best, Edwin
